OPEN SOURCE

Introduction

Open Source serves as the technological engine powering UPSI’s Open Science initiative. It champions the use, modification, and community distribution of software whose underlying source code is fully transparent and public. By prioritizing open-source tools over restrictive proprietary software, UPSI ensures that its digital academic environment is highly customizable, cost-effective, and fully transparent to external developers and collaborators.

System Architecture Targeted via sWADAH

UPSI’s entire digital ecosystem is targetted using sWADAH. To support an advanced Current Research Information System (CRIS) and repository framework, the platform is built from the ground up using reliable open-source components.

Frontend Experience and Advanced Integration

To give researchers and administrators a premium user experience, the frontend of the sWADAH environment integrates modern web tools including PHP8, NodeJS, Yarn, and PM2. This open architecture allows the university to construct a deeply customized metadata schema that aligns perfectly with global research metrics. Furthermore, it allows for smooth data migration from legacy platforms, complete login integration with current university identity providers, and an enhanced user interface featuring interactive dashboards for tracking research outputs.
